Last weekend, I had to run by Target to buy dog treats, so as usual I browsed through their DvD section. I have also been on the hunt for a certain weather alert radio and I was hoping they had it(they didn't). I always check movies at Target, because they usually have a good selection on sale. Low and behold, I found a 2 disc set, of Shanghai Noon, and Shanghai Knights, you remember the Owen Wilson / Jackie Chan buddy comedy set in the old west. They were selling both packaged in one case for only $9. I watched both movies back to back, it had been awhile and I had forgotten about this scene (luckily you can find just about anything on youtube). The scene is from the second movie, and the random guy part cracks me up.
Yesterday I also received two movies from Netflix.
- Cloverfield

Well, I'm sure most of you saw previews or heard about this movie. The whole thing is shot in first person, as in someone holding a camcorder. Think Blair Witch, but not in the woods, and not a evil scary witch.
The movie starts with a scene between Rob and my girl Beth. Also filmed on the same camera. We then jump to a time in the future, where Rob's friends are planning a surprise going away party. Rob has just got a job in Japan. The character Hud who I found annoying, gets roped into filming goodbye testimonials to Rob during the party. In comes Mrs Rain King, I mean Beth, with some dude. We find out Rob and Beth have been friends for years, he has always been in love with her (but is mad because I won't share). During the party they have a fight relating to that opening scene, all filmed, and she ends up leaving with above mentioned date. Later during the party, what seems like an earthquake hits, so everyone rushes to the roof for a better view. They soon discover its not a quake, but more like a giant monster out of a Godzilla movie attacking the city.
There is a mad rush to get off the island of Manhattan, and Rob receives a call from Beth. She is trapped, in her apartment (the opposite direction towards said monster). The movie unfolds as Rob and his friends, camera in tow, make their way back towards danger to save Beth, not even knowing if she is still alive.
I have to admit this was a good movie. The whole first person thing wasn't that annoying (just the nonstop talking of the character filming was). I liked how during the movie, they would stop the current recording for various reasons, and we would see the tape Hud was filming over. It chronicled that same day the movie opened with, where Rob and my hawtie Beth spent a whole day together at Coney Island.
I'd recommend this one.
ciao!

Price Chopper has a good one for $29 - it's supposed to be one of the better ones. I looked into it last Christmas as I was going to give one as a gift.
But hell, you probably want one with all the widgets and gidgets on it . : )
